Important Viralink Update

If you are a blogger and interested in Boosting your pagerank and have not participated in Viralink yet, I highly recommend you do.

Please keep Viralink going by copying from whoever told you about it and we will have a healthy viral community for some time yet!

First of all let me thank everyone who has taken part, in a little over a week Viralink has had phenomenal success for me. And trust me this has been working for everyone! I’ve just had an email from and noticed that many people who have found Viralink are bypassing the blog they have found it from and copying it direct from Andy Coatse, the creator's blog. There is nothing wrong with this but somewhat detracts from the viral effect and limits the lifespan of Viralink, to keep this project healthy and moving it’s better to copy the grid from wherever you found it, in this case Blog Plus Ultra. No matter where you are in the chain you will build links. This does take a little self promotion to get major results but for the little effort it takes to send the message out to your blogging partners the rewards are worth it! Thank you and have fun watching your pagerank rocket Ever Higher Ever Farther Ever Better,
Blog Plus Ultra

"Poguetry in Motion" Plus Ultra Salutes The Pogues!

"The British press have been giving me six months to live for the past twenty years - they must be getting pissed off interviewing me by now." -Shane MacGowan

Last night, I went on a vision quest. At the peak of my mystical experience I had a deep revelation into the meaning of life. Fearing I would loose the vision I wisely wrote down everything the universe had told me. This morning when I came to, I immediately examined what I had written, to my surprise all that the note said was; "The Pogues Rule!”

Now I know that a lot of people look to Plus Ultra to set a high moral example when it comes to clean living and The Pogues are the embodiment of debauchery. However as a change of pace, Plus Ultra, Wikipedia, and Youtube have teamed up to pay tribute to one of the drunkest, coolest bands of all time, Ladies and Gentlemen...The Pogues!

"The Pogues are a band of mixed Irish and English background, playing traditional Irish folk with influences from the English punk movement. They reached international prominence in the 1980s and 1990s before breaking up in 1996. The band began performing together again in 2001, though they have yet to record new music. They merged traditional Irish music with the energy of contemporary punk, essentially inventing Celtic Punk. They were also highly influential on the larger Celtic Fusion scene. Frontman Shane MacGowan described their style as "playing Irish music to a young rock audience". The music press at the time dubbed their syle as "Punk Céilidh" due to the energy of the frontman and the prevalence of pogo dancing at their earlier gigs.

The Pogues were founded in King's Cross, a district of North London, in 1982 as Pogue Mahone—"pogue mahone" being the Anglicisation of the Irish póg mo thóin, meaning "kiss my arse". The band specialised in Irish folk music, often playing with the energy of the punk rock scene from which several of the members had their roots.

Their politically-tinged music was reminiscent of The Clash, with whom they played (Joe Strummer produced one of their albums and even joined the group briefly), and used traditional Irish instruments such as the tin whistle, banjo, cittern, mandolin, accordion, and more. In the later incarnations of the band, after the departure of Shane MacGowan, rock instruments such as the electric guitar would become more prominent. The first of The Pogues' albums, Red Roses for Me, borrows much from the punk tradition of MacGowan's previous band The Nipple Erectors (later dubbed The Nips).

Shane MacGowan (vocals), James Fearnley (accordion) and Spider Stacy (tin whistle) were the original members of The Pogues, in the days when they busked on the streets of London. They were originally formed when Shane MacGowan, influenced by the Hounslow band JEEP's version of the "Wild Rover" when he saw them at the "Anglers Retreat"—a pub in West Drayton—and in the presence of Spider Stacy, began to play a breakneck version of an Irish ballad, at around twice the speed of the original. Stacy believed this to be a wonderful idea—although he has since admitted that he suspects MacGowan came up with it on the spot—and the band began.

Before the rest of the group formed, MacGowan and Stacy were rumored to have played impromptu performances on street corners and city buses which attracted local interest to their talent. They later added Jeremy "Jem" Finer (guitar, banjo), Cait O'Riordan (bass) and Andrew Ranken (drums). The band rapidly developed a reputation, started releasing independent work, and ended up opening for The Clash on tour in 1984. Shortening their name to "The Pogues" due to lack of radio play for the curse in their name, they released their first album Red Roses for Me that October.

Phil Chevron (guitar) joined the group soon after, then with the aid of punk and new wave forefather Elvis Costello they recorded the follow up, Rum, Sodomy and the Lash, in 1985 (the album title is a famous comment attributed, probably falsely, to Winston Churchill and others in describing the traditions of the British Royal Navy).

The album cover featured The Raft of the Medusa, though the faces on the characters in Géricault's painting have been replaced with those of the band members. The album shows the band moving away from covers to original material. Shane MacGowan came into his own as a songwriter with this disc, offering up poetic story-telling, such as "The Sick Bed of Cúchulainn" and "The Old Main Drag", as well as definitive interpretations of Ewan MacColl's "Dirty Old Town" and Eric Bogle's "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda", the latter of which has become more popular than the original recording.

The band failed to take advantage of the momentum created by the strong artistic and commercial success of their second album. They first refused to record another album (offering up the four-track EP Poguetry in Motion instead); O'Riordan married Costello and left the band, to be replaced by bassist Darryl Hunt; and they added a multi-instrumentalist in Terry Woods, formerly of Steeleye Span. Looming over the band at this period (as throughout their entire career) was the increasingly erratic behaviour of their vocalist, principal songwriter and creative visionary, Shane MacGowan. Their record label, Stiff Records, went bankrupt soon after the 1987 release of the single "The Irish Rover" (with the Dubliners).

The band remained stable enough to record If I Should Fall from Grace with God in 1988 (with its Christmas hit duet with Kirsty MacColl "Fairytale of New York", which has recently been voted the best Christmas song ever in VH1 UK polls) and 1989's Peace and Love. The band was at the peak of its commercial success, with both albums making the top 5 in the UK (numbers 3 and 5 respectively), but MacGowan was spiralling out of control. Following their next album, Hell's Ditch, MacGowan and the band parted company in 1991.

With his departure, the band was thrown into a state of flux. Without their singer, vocal duties were for a time handled by Joe Strummer, before Stacy finally took over permanently. Two politely received albums followed, the first of which, Waiting for Herb, contained the band's third and final top twenty single, "Tuesday Morning" which became their best-selling single internationally. In 1996, The Pogues disbanded with just three original members remaining.

Aphorisms on Love

First rub your penis with wasp stings
and massage it with sweet oil.
When it swells, let it dangle for ten nights
through a hole in your bed,
going to sleep each night on your stomach.

After this period use a cool ointment
to remove the pain and swelling.
By this method men... of insatiable
sexual appetite, manage to keep
their penises enlarged throughout their lives

As usual on nights like tonight, I was reading the Kama Sutra, the ancient indian erotic teachings
by Vatsyayana and came across something called Apadravyas(described above).

I don't know why but I think it very humorous that somebody must have actually tried this. Imagine the pain of ten wasp bites on your lingam(penis)?

I am going to try something a little more reasonable and start with just 5 wasp stings and by the way, does anybody know where I can buy a bed with a hole in it?

While my Ukulele gently weeps by Jake Shimabukuro

This is one of Youtube's best ukulele covers of George Harrison's classic song "While my guitar gently weeps".

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jake Shimabukuro (born November 3, 1976 in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi) is a ukulele virtuoso known for his lightning-fast fingers. His music combines elements of jazz, rock, Hawaiian, and pop.

A fifth generation Japanese American, Jake initially gained attention in Hawaiʻi in 1998 as a member of the trio "Pure Heart", playing alongside Lopaka Colon (percussion), and Jon Yamasato (guitar). While Jake was working at a music store in Honolulu, the group released their eponymous debut album, featuring a sound and style very similar to the Kaʻau Crater Boys. The following year, they released Pure Heart 2, which earned them a Hoku award for Island Contemporary Album of the year. Jon departed for college shortly thereafter, to be replaced by Guy Cruz, younger brother of the Kaʻau Crater Boys' Ernie Cruz, Jr. The group continued to perform together through the summer of 2000, after which Jake decided to pursue a solo career.

He has released an instructional DVD called "Play Loud Ukulele." Shimabukuro has toured with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, Jimmy Buffett and most recently in Australia with Tommy Emmanuel.

His influences include Eddie Van Halen, George Harrison, Yngwie Malmsteen, Bruce Lee and Carlos Santana.

Jake gained internet popularity from a video of him playing of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by the Beatles in Central Park. He played with the band on the Last Call with Carson Daly TV program on February 15, 2007 (reaired April 24, 2007).

Ziggy Stardust and the spiders on drugs

O.K. this post is not about David Bowie's classic album Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from Mars(The first record I ever owned), but their is a connection to Mars, or more precisely N.A.S.A. and Spiders.

The NASA experiments have shown that common house spiders spin their webs in different ways according to the psychotropic drug they have been given. Spiders on marijuana made a reasonable stab at spinning webs but appeared to lose concentration about half-way through. Those on Benzedrine - "speed" - spin their webs "with great gusto, but apparently without much planning leaving large holes", according to New Scientist magazine.

The scientists believe their previous work on the geometry of crystals will help them to devise computer programs that can analyze web-building objectively in order to predict the toxicity of new medicines. "It appears that one of the most telling measures of toxicity is a decrease, in comparison with a normal web, of the numbers of completed sides [of a web]; the greater the toxicity, the more sides the spider fails to complete", the scientists say.

Paul Hillard, spider specialist at the Natural History Museum in London, said researchers first discovered the effects of psychotropic drugs on spiders during experiments at the end of 1960s. The researchers fed caffeine to spiders in hope of making them spin webs in the late evening rather than the early dawn. The result was eccentric webs rather than earlier spinning, he said.

Ricky Williams Pot-head Dread = Shaved Head Yoga Master

I think Ricky Williams rocks. When I heard he was teaching Yoga? I admire him even more now. Ricky is a tremendous running back, who has been hassled by the N.F.L. and C.F.L. for smoking marijuana for a long time. What is the big deal? I think it is as ridiculous as saying if you eat vegetables you should not be allowed to play Football.

I can see where Ricky is coming from because I smoke the herb like Snoop Doggy dog and love to play footbal. I play the other football though,(soccer). About 5 nights a week at a local park with a group of very talented and skilled playas from all over the world. Many Africans, South Americans and Middle Eastern guys. I have been going there for over 10 years now as often as I can while the weather is warm. In the winter I play Indoors. I am a soccer fanatic and dope fiend and I am going to go do some yoga stretches, smoke a spliff and head for the game right now ...Ricky Style!

I may never be a master debator but...

When I was a young boy we were so poor that if it hadn't of been for the fact that I was a young boy, I would have had nothing to play with at all.

I have recently discovered that there are many porn sites on the internet.

I never used to visit these sites because they cost money or you had to download questionable files that made your computer sick with symptoms similar to syphilis.

But now, with streaming video and web 2.0 the porn industry is as accessible as any other video powered by a large user community such as youtube. Actually the site Pornotube is an obvious copycat of the video file sharing site youtube with most of the same features including a search engine, video ratings, click and paste code for embedding videos on your site etc...(Don't expect to see any adult videos on my site) but here are a few links to free sites

Pornotube
Netchannels
Sexulus

The only obstacle I currently face with being able to watch any of my wildest sexual fantasies on the computer is my girlfriend. She always catches me somehow, even when I delete my browsing history! I think she has E.S.P.

I try to explain to her that watching porn is a good use of my time, but she disagrees. What do you think?

Nobody suffers like the poor

What this blog needs is some more Harmonica and R.L. Burnside!

Guys like these two Mississippi Bluesman (R.L Burnside and Johnny Woods performing Telephone Blues) never earned fair dollar for the incredible music they created, and have left to posterity for all of us to enjoy. Not to mention the incredible racism only a black man from way back in the day in the Southern United States Must have endured.

Isn't it strange how through suffering, greatness is often achieved?

Peyote

As a teenager I first learned about peyote by reading many of Carlos Castaneda's series of new age books about Don Juan, the brujo (Shaman) from Sonora Mexico. He used the hallucinogenic cactus plant to induce visions that serve as spiritual and moral teachings for the author Carlos Castaneda. I always wanted to try peyote but I would have no idea where to find it. Until today when I saw this peyote button.I can't believe it is for sale on the internet!

Do you think I should order some?

Under the Canadian Controlled Drugs and Substances Act mescaline is defined as illegal but peyote is specifically exempt. Controlled Drugs And Substances Act "17. Mescaline (3,4,5–trimethoxybenzeneethanamine) and any sale thereof, but not peyote (lophophora)"

It is getting hot in here

Have you ever wished you lived somewhere nice and cold like say, Winnipeg Canada?

Well I do and judging by the sunburn on my neck it ain't so cold today. It is definitely a pleasure to chill on days like this(especially this early, May 8), but it does make you think doesn't it? Even somebody like me who doesn't like to think at all, never-mind about such sober topics as global warming.
It really is impossible not to mention the weather eventually in any conversation. It usually happens quickly.
Example: Hello, How are you? Nice weather we're having.
It seems like the new normal is to mention the current weather conditions and also make a joke or comment about global warming. It has certainly become a mainstream topic from idle chit chat, to television reports, on the internet and especially all over the political world.

Do you think if the leaders of the world spent as much time, energy and money on things such as preventing global warming as they do on Wars, and other such folly, all the world's man made problems would be easily solved? Probably. Unfortunately I do not think this will happen soon.

I apologize to my readers who like to visit this site for less serious topics, but today I felt like reminding you (and myself) that we are doomed.
Just kidding, but we can easily become doomed if we look around at all the needless and senseless acts of stupid human behavior out there.
REMEMBER
even if the world's problems seem so huge and great at times, their is always an immovable spot inside each person that is beyond this world, at peace now and always.

Love,
Plusultra
